Speed Test

Please follow the steps below to conduct an accurate speed test of your Internet.

Test your Internet Speed from your computer

  1. Reboot your modem by unplug your modem from power for 1 minute and plug it back on.  
  2. Connect your computer directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable, (not WiFI).
  3. Reboot your computer to ensure no other applications are running; do not download, upload files or surf the web during the test.
  4. Turn off the WiFi of all devices in your home; ensure no other wired or wireless devices are connected to the Internet.  Keep in mind that every device online at the same time is using a portion of the total speed.
  5. Got to www.speedtest.net
  6. Click "Settings"
  7. Under "Global Settings" and "Server", click "Change Server"
  8. For a consistent testing result, please select the following servers to test your speed:
    • if you are using DSL Internet - select Toronto, ON - Bell Canada
    • if you are using Cable Internet - select Toronto, ON - TELUS
  9. Press "GO" to start testing and record the results.

Understand Your Results

These results reflect the capabilities of your computer and the Internet connection.
  • Download Speed affects most online activities, like loading web pages and streaming videos
  • Upload Speed determines how quickly you can send information for activities like video conferencing, uploading data to cloud.
  • Ping measures the reaction time of your connection, impacting activities like online gaming.

Didn't get the results you expected?

  1. Your computer may have speed limitations; try the test using a different computer.
  2. If you are getting speeds significantly lower than what you have subscribed, send us screenshots of speed test results taken in the morning, afternoon and night time for troubleshooting.
